Askold Ivantchik
Askold Ivantchik is a Senior Research Fellow (directeur de recherche) at CNRS; Director of the Centre for Comparative Studies of Ancient Civilizations at the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia; and Professor of Ancient History at Moscow State University. Among other affiliations, he is also a Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2003), of the German Archaeological Institute (2002) and of the Istituto Italiano per l’Africa e l’Oriente (2004); chief editor of the journals Ancient Civilizations from Scythia to Siberia (Leiden) and Vestnik drevnei istorii (Moscow).
His research is focused on Greek and Latin epigraphy (especially of the Black Sea region and of Phrygia), Ancient history and archaeology of the Eurasian steppes, the Black Sea region and Western Anatolia, Greek colonization, relations between Greeks and the Iranian world, Greek ethnographic descriptions, and Herodotus. He is the author of five books and numerous articles published in Russian, French, German and Japanese including Les Cimmériens au Proche-Orient (1993); Kimmerier und Skythen. Kulturhistorische und chronologische Probleme der Archäologie der osteuropäischen Steppen und Kaukasiens in vor- und frühskythischer Zeit(2001); Am Vorabend der Kolonisation.
