Our exhibitions are free and open to the public. The gallery hours are as follows:

Tuesday-Sunday, 11am-6pm, Friday 11am-8pm
Closed Mondays
Free Guided Tour, Fridays at 6pm

Visitor Guidelines

We look forward to welcoming you to our galleries! Your health and safety are our top priorities.

  • All visitors must show proof of vaccination and booster against COVID-19 with an FDA-authorized or WHO-listed vaccine
  • Visitors must also show a valid government-issued photo ID
  • All visitors are required to wear acceptable masks at all times
  • Acceptable masks include: disposable masks (surgical or medical procedure masks); KN95 masks; KF94 masks; N95 masks
  • Masks with one-way valves or vents, cloth masks, bandanas, scarves, and face covering made with other repurposed clothing items are not acceptable (unless being used as a second layer over a disposable mask)
  • Masks must be worn so that they fully cover nose and mouth, and must have a snug fit

Directions

The Institute is on the upper east side of Manhattan, just a block from Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There are many parking garages near the Institute and the Subway is close by.

Subway:
The nearest Subway stop is at 86th St. and Lexington Ave., at which the 4,5 and 6 trains stop. The Institute is a short walk from this station. Please see the above map for directions from the Subway to the Institute.

Accessibility:

Stools and a wheelchair are available for use at exhibitions in our ground-floor galleries, which are accessible via elevator from the street-level lobby. An ADA-compliant bathroom is available in the basement level, which is also accessible by elevator. Large-print versions of object labels are available in the galleries during exhibitions.
