Digital Humanities at a Global Scale: The Example of the Human Figure
Sebastian Heath
This lecture will take place in person at ISAW. Registration is required; click through for the registration link. This talk will explore Global Approaches to Early Representations of the Human Figure (GAERHF), a new digital art history project exploring the long-term, global history of images of the human figure, from approximately 50,000 years ago through the mid-fifteenth century CE. By demonstrating the project’s current state of development, this lecture will consider how representations across vast temporal and geographic scales can be presented within a dynamic website that encourages discovery, supports multiple narratives, and contributes to broader art historical and interdisciplinary conversations.
