The Getty Research Institute has announced its scholars for the 2024-2025 academic year, with ISAW’s own Lorenzo d'Alfonso among the recipients.

Lorenzo is included in the category “Getty Villa Scholars: Anatolia” as he focuses on the political and social archaeology of Syria and Anatolia, as well as cross-cultural contacts with groups and political entities in the ancient Mediterranean, around 1500-500 BCE. Specifically, his work centers on new Phrygian inscribed ceramics from Niğde Kınık Höyük, South-Central Anatolia, the question of adoption, and the use and spread of alphabetic writing in Anatolia during the Middle Iron Age.

The Getty Scholars Program fosters innovative research in art history and visual culture by providing residential grants to international scholars at the Getty Center or Getty Villa. It supports researchers in expanding knowledge of the arts, humanities, and cultural heritage through collaborative projects, access to Getty’s resources, and engagement with a global scholarly community.

Congratulations to Lorenzo d'Alfonso on this well-deserved recognition! This grant will provide him with the opportunity to spend significant time at one of the world’s premier art history collections, while also contributing to the international community committed to intellectual exploration and exchange.
