Thelma K. Thomas

Thelma Thomas is an Associate Professor of Fine Arts, New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts where she teaches and conducts research across the fields of Late Antique, Byzantine, and Eastern Christian art. Her current research focus is on textile furnishings, portraits of the Egyptian desert fathers, and monastic dress in Late Antiquity, which has led her to investigate social and ritual space. Thomas is also interested in developments of ancient traditions during Late Antiquity, and the reception of Late Antique art in modern times.  Thomas holds an M.A. and Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University.
