ISAW’s Exhibition team is pleased to announce this Fall’s upcoming show, The Eye of the Shah: Qajar Court Photography and the Persian Past, which will be open to the public from October 22, 2015 to January 17, 2016. The Eye of the Shah includes unprecedented photographs of life in the royal court in Tehran during the reigns of the last shahs of the Qajar Dynasty (1785-1925). These images will be complemented by photographs of iconic ancient monuments and sites, such as Persepolis and Naqsh-e Rostam, which capture Iran’s expansive and rich historical past and were used to promote Iran and Iranian culture to the West in the late 19th and early 20th century. The Eye of the Shah will include over 150 photographic prints, a number of vintage photographic albums, and memorabilia that utilized formal portraiture of the shah, many of which have never been shown to the public before. We look forward to seeing you in October, when these provocative photographs of Iran’s recent and ancient past will be on display!
