The Institute for the Study of the Ancient World and the American Numismatic Society are pleased to announce the release of a new version of OCRE (Online Coins of the Roman Empire). The OCRE project aims to provide a comprehensive online resource encompassing every known Roman Imperial coin type, about 50,000 in total, from Augustus in 31 BC, until the death of Zeno in AD 491.

The new version of the database now runs until Caracalla’s death in AD 217; it also incorporates multiple contributing collections, with the addition of specimens from the collection of the Münzkabinett of the State Museum of Berlin and the University of Virginia Art Museum to those of the American Numismatic Society. The new version of OCRE also allows users to search in 10 languages other than English. More developments are expected soon, as new collections and new reigns are added to the database continuously.
