ISAW Professor Lorenzo d'Alfonso Achieves Italian National Habilitation

Last week, Lorenzo d'Alfonso, Assistant Professor of Ancient Western Asian Archaeology and History at ISAW, received the official Italian national habilitation for the associate professorship. The title, which is valid throughout the European Union, was unanimously approved by a committee composed by Carlo Giovanni Cereti (Sapienza University of Rome), Francesca Maria Corrao (LUISS University of Rome), Jaakko Hämeen-Anttila (University of Helsinki), and Stefania Mazzoni (University of Florence) for the field of the "Ancient Civilizations of Western and Central Asia". The evaluation of Professor Hämeen-Anttila remarked, "[d'Alfonso's] list of publications is extensive, and several of the submitted items have been published in well-known international publications. The submitted items are of a high quality and exhibit scholarly maturity." The habilitation, a long-standing institution in Germany but relatively new in Italy, is not connected with any particular position but reflects national recognition of scholarly standing.
