Teaching Archaeology of the Ancient Near East: Material Culture and Research Perspectives during the Spring Term 2016 at ISAW has been really enriching. Not only do the students come from a variety of backgrounds, something that has substantially enhanced the diversity of perspectives in our class, but also the ability to combine time spent in the class with an equal amount of time at the Near Eastern galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art has really made this course unique. Nothing beats the opportunity to ‘touch with your eyes’ and experience the artifacts you have been studying only from books. It is the best possible ‘indoor lab’ you could wish for!
