The Latin inscription, which was incised on the inside of the bowl between the rim and the medallion, reads:

DEO MERC CAN DECIR LVPERCVS EX TEST PLAC DOCIRIGVS

Translation: To the god Mercury Can(etonnensis), Decirius Lupercus from the testament of Placidus Docirix.
