Lauren Malkoun and Anna Selden Named Archaeological Institute of America - New York Society Scholars
Congratulations to ISAW PhD students Lauren Malkoun and Anna Selden on being selected as Archaeological Institute of America - New York Society Scholars. The program supports undergraduates and first year graduate students at New York City institutions engaged in archaeological research through AIA membership, opportunities to contribute to the Society newsletter, and access to lectures and events throughout the year.
At ISAW, Lauren Malkoun plans to deepen her research on the eastern Mediterranean, with a focus on Roman period Lebanon (Syria/Syria-Phoenicia). Her work explores urbanization and landscapes alongside material culture, cross cultural interaction, and identity, while also considering how modern perspectives shape the way we interpret the past.
Anna Selden intends to pursue research on the body, dress, gender, and performance in the Iron Age Eastern Mediterranean, including the Aegean, Anatolia, and the Levant, with a broader interest in cultural exchange across the region’s visual traditions. She is particularly interested in eunuchs and gender ambiguity in the archaeological record and in ancient visual representation.
ISAW is proud to celebrate Lauren and Anna’s appointment and looks forward to seeing their research develop over the coming year.
