ISAW Alumna Dr. Irene Soto Marín Accepts Joint Position at the University of Michigan
We are delighted to congratulate ISAW alumna Dr. Irene Soto Marín, who has accepted a joint position at the University of Michigan as Assistant Professor of Classical Studies and Assistant Curator at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. Dr. Soto Marín’s responsibilities in this double appointment will include researching and spearheading projects about the numismatic collection at the Kelsey, curating exhibitions, developing outreach programs, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses for the department of Classical Studies. She will also have the opportunity to continue her research on the nature of Roman and Late Roman economies, particularly questions of integration, trade, and globalization.
In addition to her ongoing fieldwork in Egypt as part of the Amheida excavations, she also hopes to be able to contribute in the future to some of the numerous ongoing archaeological projects led by Michigan professors. Dr. Soto Marín will join the Michigan faculty and Kelsey Museum after three years as a Visiting Assistant Professor and postdoctoral researcher in the department of Ancient History at the University of Basel in Switzerland, where she is currently leading a research project measuring the monetary integration of Late Roman Egypt.
