ISAW Library New Titles: October-December 2018

Lists of books added to the ISAW Library in October,  November, and December 2018 are now available online on the ISAW Library website. The titles are sorted in the website version according to thematic topics (e.g., "China, South Asia, & East Asia" and "Near East & Asia Minor"); and within each topic, the titles are organized according to Library of Congress classification. The authors and titles of works in non-Roman languages are given in their original script. These lists are also available in our Zotero library and as browsable maps (Oct., Nov., Dec.) created using Google Fusion Tables. Collectively, 630 items were added to the library collection from October to December. Among the titles of note in this quarter's acquisitions were both the 1905 and the 1926 editions of the original publication on the Oxus Treasure, an important collection of Achaemenid metalwork:

  • Franks bequest: The treasure of the Oxus, with other objects from ancient Persia and India, bequeathed to the Trustees of the British museum by Sir Augustus Wollaston Franks, by O.M. Dalton (Large Collection NK6472 .D35 1905)
  • Treasure of the Oxus: with other examples of early oriental metal-work, by O.M. Dalton (Large Collection NK6472 .D35 1926)

Old and new publications of cuneiform texts and archives were also well represented at the end of 2018:

  • The Code of Hammurabi, King of Babylon, about 2250 B.C.: autographed text, transliteration, translation, glossary, index of subjects, lists of proper names, signs, numerals, corrections and erasures, with map, frontispiece and photograph of text, by Robert Francis Harper (Small Collection KL2212.1 .A2 1904
  • A Late Old Babylonian temple archive from Dūr-Abiešuh: the sequel, by Kathleen Abraham and Karel Van Lerberghe (Large Collection PJ3711 .C67 v.29 2017
  • Corpus of Middle Babylonian and Middle Assyrian incantations, by Elyze Zomer (Small Collection PJ3791 .Z66 2018
  • Sumerian lexical texts from the Temple School of Nippur, by Edward Chiera (Large Collection PJ4054.N5 C5 1929

These months also so the addition of a wide range of papyrological publications to the library's collection, including:

Hundreds more titles were added to our library at the end of 2018, including works on the Bible and the archaeology of the Levant, chiefly from the collection of Lawrence E. Stager; the multivolume proceedings of the International Congress of Cretan Studies (Διεθνές Κρητολογικον Συνεδριον); and a number of recent publications on the art and archaeology of China.
