A list of books added to the ISAW Library in December 2017 is now available online on the ISAW Library website. The titles are sorted in the website version according to thematic topics (e.g., "East Asia" and "Ancient Near East & Asia Minor"); and within each topic, the titles are organized according to Library of Congress classification. The authors and titles of works in non-Roman languages are given in their original script. This list is also available in a Zotero library and as a browsable map created using Google Fusion Tables. [Update, February 2021: Our new map interface is now live. The December 2017 map is available here.]

December was a busy month for the library, with 339 new items added to the collection.

Several donations enriched this month’s new titles. Notable among these is the three-volume folio Monuments antiques: relevés et restaurés par les architectes pensionnaires de l'Académie de France à Rome (Folio Collection NA261 .S4 1910), kindly donated to the library by Virginia Stotz from the library of her late husband, Charles M. Stotz. These early 20th-century volumes include detailed illustrations of classical buildings, and are a key title for the study of Greco-Roman architecture.

Additional titles added to the collection include titles on Byzantine history and the Christian East from the library of Nina Garsoïan, works on the art and archaeology of China from the library of Susan L. Beningson, and numismatic titles from the library of F. Gordon Frost. One of December’s new titles from the Beningson Collection is currently on display on the library’s second floor in connection to ISAW’s current exhibition “Romance and Reason: Islamic Transformations of the Classical Past”: Shahnama: 1000 years of the Persian Book of Kings, a lushly-illustrated publication from a 2010 exhibition at the Freer/Sackler Museum in Washington (Large Collection ND3399.F5 A78 2010).

Other items of note in December’s new titles include the 16-volume 陕西金文集成 (Oversize Collection PL2448 .S544 2016), an encyclopedic  publication of inscriptions from Shaanxi Province, several recent publications on Mongolian archaeological finds, and a number of titles on Scythian and Central Asian excavations from the library of Aleksandr Leskov.

As always, the titles added to the ISAW Library for the entire academic year may be found both on our website and in our Zotero library. You can also follow our progress on Facebook and Twitter.
