NYU Special Collections accessions the archive of the New York Society of the Archaeological Institute of America
In October 2024, the ISAW Library assisted NYU Special Collections in organizing the accession of the archive of the New York Society of the Archaeological Institute of America.
Founded in 1884, the Society is one of the AIA’s most active local chapters, regularly hosting lectures and other events in the New York metropolitan area. The Society’s papers have traditionally been maintained by its president, and the scholar currently serving in that role, ISAW’s Antonis Kotsonas, recognized the importance of finding a permanent institutional home for this record of over a century of activity. The archive, comprising 6 boxes of correspondence, event announcements, meeting minutes, and administrative records, now resides in the New York University Archives, where it will be accessible to the Society’s officers and researchers interested in its foundation and history.
The finding aid to the collection is available here.
We thank Prof. Kotsonas for giving us the opportunity to help facilitate this donation on behalf of the Society, and to our colleagues in University Archives team for its diligent work in accessioning the collection.
