Credit Transfers
Incoming students may apply to transfer up to 23 credits from a previous Master’s degree towards their doctoral credits. A credit transfer of up to 18 points requires approval by the student's supervisory committee, the DGS, the GSAS Dean's office, and the Registrar. A credit transfer totaling 19 to 23 points also requires approval by the full ISAW faculty at a faculty meeting. Only courses taken at the graduate level qualify and should have a direct bearing on the student's current course of study. Students should submit a request form to their committee with a list of the classes they would like to transfer along with a brief description of each class. When committee approval has been given, students should submit the form to the Associate Director for Academic Affairs along with an original copy of the school transcript, no later than April 30th. Credit transfer requests must be approved within the student’s first year. Final approval will come from the Graduate School of Arts and Science Office of Academic Affairs.
