Institute for the Study of the Ancient World

ISAW is a center for advanced scholarly research and graduate education, which seeks to cultivate connective and comparative investigations of the ancient world from the western Mediterranean to China, drawing on every relevant category of evidence and method of analysis. Built around a mix of established and younger scholars, the Institute is designed to make possible concrete progress in ground-breaking study that would be more difficult within narrow disciplinary bounds. It carries out its mission through faculty research and doctoral and postdoctoral programs, bringing the results to both scholarly and general publics through exhibitions, conferences, public lectures, and publications that reflect the Institute's ideal of study that bridges disciplines and ancient peoples.
