The Latin inscription, which was incised on the front of the body of the pitcher, reads:

MERCVRIO [AVG] CAMVLOGNATA COICI FILIA VSLM

Translation: To Augustan Mercury, Camulognata, the daughter of Coicus, fulfilled her vow willingly as merited.
