This event will take place in person at ISAW.

Registration is required at THIS LINK.

Join curator Jeffrey Spier for an in-gallery exploration of the exhibition Cursed! The Power of Magic in the Ancient World. Dr. Spier will discuss the exhibition's key themes and engage participants in close-looking at a selection of exhibition highlights. Registration is limited.

Dr. Jeffrey Spier is the former Anissa and Paul John Balson II Senior Curator of Antiquities at the J. Paul Getty Museum. He completed his DPhil at Merton College, Oxford, and taught classical archaeology at University College London and the University of Arizona before joining the Getty as Senior Curator of Antiquities in 2014. He has published on many aspects of Greek art and iconography, gems and jewelry, numismatics, early Christian and Byzantine art, ancient magic, and the history of collecting.

This talk is given in conjunction with ISAW's exhibition Cursed! The Power of Magic in the Ancient World. The exhibition is organized by the Toledo Museum of Art; its presentation at ISAW is made possible by generous support from the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation and the Leon Levy Foundation.
