Ancient Nubia: African Kingdoms on the Nile
Chester Higgins
Ancient Nubia: African Kingdoms on the Nile - edited by an outstanding team of Egyptologists led by Drs. Margaret Fisher, Peter Lacovara and Salima Ikram - is the most comprehensive work to date on this subject. At the suggestion of Egyptologist Dr. Bob Brier, the team reached out to Higgins and selected images from his archives - photographs from three seasons of work in the northern Sudan - to illustrate the 472-page book. The majority of the location photographs in this stunning book were made by Higgins.
About the Book:
For most of the modern world, ancient Nubia seems an unknown and enigmatic land. Only a handful of archaeologists have studied its history or unearthed the Nubian cities, temples, and cemeteries that once dotted the landscape of southern Egypt and northern Sudan. Nubia's remote setting in the midst of harsh desert, with river access blocked by impassable rapids, has lent it not only an air of mystery, but also isolated it from exploration.
The book, highlighting some recent discoveries in ancient Nubia, gives us a picture of this rich, but unfamiliar, African legacy.
