Visiting Fellowship for NYU Faculty

ISAW offers one fellowship per year for an NYU faculty member working in an area of the ancient world relevant to ISAW's mission. This fellowship is modeled on the internal fellowships offered by the Center for the Humanities, in that it consists of funding given to the holder's home department to help defray the cost of replacement teaching while the fellowship holder is on research leave. During the fellowship period, the holder will be expected to be in residence at ISAW, undertake research projects connected with ISAW's core academic mission, participate in an ISAW seminar, give a public lecture on his or her research at ISAW, contribute to the intellectual life of the Institute, and play an active role in mentoring graduate students.

The following priorities will govern the award of these fellowships:

1. Faculty with entitlement to a sabbatical or other university leave for one semester will be given priority so as to create a full-year research leave.

2.  Faculty who have had a university leave in the year immediately preceding will not be eligible.

3. Untenured faculty will be given priority over tenured.

4. ISAW affiliated faculty will be given priority over others.

A faculty member's home department must approve the leave on these terms, as must the relevant dean. A letter with these approvals must accompany the application, which should consist of a cover letter, project description, CV, and list of three referees prepared to write in support of the application (if requested). Applicants are also required to complete a researcher profile and an EEO form in Interfolio. All documents must be submitted through the online application system at

The application deadline for fellowships to be held during the 2022-23 academic year is November 20, 2021.

Technical support for the application is being provided by Interfolio's support team. Other questions should be directed to Marc LeBlanc, Associate Director for Academic Affairs, at
