Visiting Fellowship for NYU Faculty

ISAW is now accepting applications from NYU faculty members working in an area of the ancient world relevant to ISAW’s mission to become a Visiting Research Scholar for the 2019-20 academic year. This fellowship is modeled on the internal fellowships offered by the Humanities Initiative, in that it consists of funding given to the holder’s home department to replace his or her teaching during a semester’s release from teaching duties. During the fellowship period the holder will be expected to be in residence at ISAW and take part in the Institute’s program like other visiting research scholars (see for details). The following priorities will govern the award of these fellowships:

1. Faculty with entitlement to a sabbatical or other university leave for one semester will be given priority so as to create a full-year research leave.

2.  Faculty who have had a university leave in the year immediately preceding will not be eligible.

3. Untenured faculty will be given priority over tenured.

4. ISAW affiliated faculty will be given priority over others.

A faculty member’s home department must approve the leave on these terms, as must the relevant dean. A letter with these approvals must accompany the application, which should consist of a cover letter, project description, c.v., and list of three referees prepared to write in support of the application (if requested). All documents must be submitted through the online application system at

The application deadline is November 20, 2018. Questions can be directed to Marc LeBlanc, at or 212-992-7860.
