The Latin inscription incised on the shoulder of the pitcher reads:

MERCVRIO AVGVSTO Q DOMITIVS TVTVS EX VOTO

Translation: To Augustan Mercury, Quintus Domitius Tutus (gave this) in fulfillment of a vow
