SUMMARY:Eternal Silk Road?:
DESCRIPTION:This lecture will take place in person at ISAW. Registrati
on is required\; click through for the registration link. All attendee
s must be in compliance with NYU's COVID-19 vaccination requirements a
nd be prepared to present proof of compliance if asked to do so. The a
rchaeological exploration of Bukhara lags\, compared to other importan
t urban centers in southern Central Asia (such as Merv or Samarkand)\,
considerably behind. Unfortunately\, the lack of data is often compen
sated by clichés about the 'Silk Road,' imagining Bukhara as a flouri
shing hub of transcontinental trade routes since the dawn of history.
