DTSTART:20181215T210000Z
DTEND:20181215T220000Z
DESCRIPTION:The Berthouville Treasure showcases the sophisticated silv
ersmithing technologies employed by ancient artisans to create sumptuo
us silver sculpture and vessels. Found by chance in the 19th century\,
this collection has recently undergone extensive conservation and stu
dy using modern imaging technologies that revealed new information abo
ut the practice of individual artists and that of workshops in Gaul an
d Rome. Although silvermithing has evolved from how it was practiced i
n antiquity\, much remains startlingly the same. Please join silversmi
th Wendy Yothers for a gallery conversation about the materials and pr
ocesses used in ancient silversmithing and how Roman techniques compar
 e with present-day metalworking practices.
