C. 208 Censer (asaṅ)

Text One line engraved around the base of a censer written in Old Cam.

Date 1052 Śaka (1130/1 CE).

Origin

It seems that this piece was part of the private collection of Mr. Vũ Kim Lộc in Hồ Chí Minh City at least until 1999, when Anne-Valérie Schweyer published a study of other objects in the same collection (C. 205, C. 206, C. 207) although without mentioning the present item and C. 209. We found the object at the Museum of Vietnamese History in Hồ Chí Minh City during our visits in 2009 and following years (ECIC III: 477). It bears the inventory number BTLS 24202.

English

Majesty among majesties, the Prince Paṅ, Sire Dhiḥ, man of Rupaṅ, son of P.L. Devarāja has offered this [incense-]burner to this image of Parameśvarī in [the year of the] Śaka king 1052.

French

Majesté d'entre les majestés, le prince Paṅ, sieur Dhiḥ, homme de Rupaṅ, fils de P.L. Devarāja, a offert ce porte[-encens] à cette image de Parameśvarī en [l'année] 1052 du roi des Śaka.
