Jennifer Y. Chi
Exhibitions Director and Chief Curator
Jennifer Y. Chi, who joined ISAW in 2007, established and leads the Institute’s exhibition program. She has curated or been part of the curatorial teams for many of ISAW's critically acclaimed exhibitions over the last 10 years, including Wine, Worship, and Sacrifice: The Golden Graves of Ancient Vani (2008), The Lost World of Old Europe: The Danube Valley 5000–3500 BC (2009), Nomads and Networks: The Ancient Art and Culture of Kazakhstan (2012), and From Ancient to Modern: Archaeology and Aesthetics (2015). Her leadership has been instrumental in enabling ISAW to bring never-before-seen ancient material to American audiences. She has additionally created a bridge between antiquity and the contemporary world with exhibitions that have illustrated connections between the art and cultures of the past and modern and present-day artists. Future exhibition projects include a show highlighting the work of Turner-prize winning artist Elizabeth Price, who has interpreted Aegean Bronze Age material from the famous Minoan site of Knossos, and an exhibition connecting ancient architectural miniatures with contemporary parallels. Dr. Chi also teaches museology at ISAW. She holds a Master of Studies with distinction from the University of Oxford and a Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.
